“Funding will Provide Electric System Improvements in 25 States
(NAFB)--Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack says rural electric cooperatives have provided reliable, affordable power to rural communities for more than 75 years. Investments announced Friday - he says - will help ensure our electric infrastructure continues to deliver reliable and affordable electricity for years to come. More than 1.8-billion dollars in funding was announced for electric utility infrastructure projects in 25 states and one territory. USDA says the projects will improve service for more than 37-thousand rural customers. More than 45-million dollars is included for smart grid technology and 73-million dollars is for renewable energy projects. With funding provided through USDA’s Rural Utilities Service Program - Vilsack says the announcement is another reminder of the importance of USDA programs for rural America. He says we need a comprehensive new Food, Farm and Jobs Bill to further expand the rural economy.
