Griffons’ Ong named MIAA Golfer of the Week again

riggertMissouriWesternST. JOSEPH – For the fourth time in 2016-17, Missouri Western sophomore Shi Qing Ong was named MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Ong claimed her fourth outright individual championship earlier this week at the UNK Invite held at Awarii Dunes in Axtell, Nebraska. Ong was even par through two rounds for a 144.

It’s been an unbelievable season for the 2016 MIAA Freshman of the Year. Ong finished atop the leaderboard at five of her team’s eight events this year, winning four of them outright. She hasn’t placed outside the top-10 yet this year. Ong’s 10th place finish at the RCB/Central Oklahoma Classic and her 6th place finish at the Holiday Inn Express Spring Invitational are the only two events she’s been outside the top-two this year.

Ong and the Griffons wrap up the regular season April 10 and 11 at the NCAA Central Region Spring Preview held at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri.
