(NAFB)--During the National FFA Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky last week - four high school FFA chapters and one middle school chapter were honored for creative initiatives that encourage individual growth, teamwork and service among members. Pontiac FFA in Illinois received the Model of Excellence Award for its focus on recruitment and retention by speaking at junior high schools about FFA and agricultural education. From these efforts - 88 new members signed up for ag classes next fall. Anna FFA of Ohio, Richland 44 FFA of North Dakota and Saint Amant FFA of Louisiana all received Model of Innovation Awards. Anna FFA members sought to improve awareness of FFA with local businesses and organizations while completing a service learning project. Richland 44 FFA reached out to the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo - offering ways to entertain patients. Saint Amant FFA members promoted healthy living by offering healthy snacks at their events. The Outstanding Middle School Award went to Signal Knob Middle FFA of Virginia. The members of this middle school chapter honored life skills during a three-day retreat to help members focus on self-organization, time management, communication and teamwork. All of these awards are sponsored by John Deere.
