Growth Energy, RFA Say Record Crop Should Put RFS Fight to Rest

(NAFB)--Given America’s farmers are on track to produce a record corn crop of nearly 14-billion bushels - and 4.9-billion bushels will be used to produce about 13.8-billion gallons of ethanol - Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis says it’s clear the food versus fuel debate can be put to bed. He says our farmers have once again proven we can produce abundant quantities of high quality food, feed, fiber and renewable fuel. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen notes the nation’s farmers produced this crop despite an extremely late, wet planting season and the so-called flash drought late in the summer. He says this year’s yield and crop highlight the astonishing innovation and technological change occurring in agriculture. Dinneen says the historic crop also highlights the urgency of maintaining demand. The Renewable Fuel Standard - he says - must stand as is with no cuts and no reductions. If RFS requirements are cut - he says the U.S. will be swimming in excess corn.
