(NAFB)--It’s been reported that House Ag Committee Chair Frank Lucas plans to move ahead with markup of the farm bill on May 15th. According to Lucas - the Republican leadership has suggested he take more time and consider tougher changes in the food stamp program to win conservative votes. Lucas said he’d be happy to hold listening sessions with the Republican whip’s office before the markup - but wants to keep his schedule and produce a bipartisan bill with Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson. On the Senate side - Nebraska’s Mike Johanns has told reporters his impression is their committee markup will also take place in May.
The House Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology and Foreign Agriculture will meet Wednesday to review horticulture priorities for the 2013 Farm Bill. The public hearing is set to begin at 10 o’clock Eastern time in Washington, D.C.
