Lincoln Neb. Grads Raising Money for Organic Farm

Two recent graduates are trying to turn a half-acre of University of Nebraska-Lincoln land into a student-run organic farm.

Recent graduates Danny Martin and Jenn Simons are working with environmental studies student Neil Tabor on the East Campus project.

They've got a commitment from UNL for the land and have been raising money to renovate a greenhouse on the site. They hope to start planting late this month or early in April.

Simons says the farm would provide real-world experience for students who have been relying on books and lectures about organic farming.

The three visited student-run organic farms in St. Paul, Minn.; Madison, Wis.; and Ames, Iowa. Martin says they were all different but provided a good base for the Lincoln project.
