Corn Planting Progress Further Delayed

(NAFB)--Planting progress continues to be delayed across the country due to persistent cool, wet conditions - according to USDA.

As of May 5th - only 12-percent of total corn acres have been planted this year compared to 69-percent at the same time last year.

National Corn Growers Association President Pam Johnson says it’s still early in the planting season and slow progress shouldn’t cause alarm. With modern farming technology reducing the time needed to plant a large number of acres - Johnson says planting can begin much later if necessary. She says America’s farmers have the work ethic necessary to take advantage of the smallest windows of opportunity - even if it means working through the night to grow an ample corn supply for the U.S. and the world.
