NFU Joins USCA to Defend COOL

(NAFB)--The National Farmers Union Board of Directors has voted unanimously to intervene in the recently-filed Country-of-Origin Labeling lawsuit seeking an injunction to vacate and stop the implementation of USDA’s final COOL rule.

NFU President Roger Johnson says the group strongly supports the rule because it addresses the issues previously brought forth to the World Trade Organization and preserves the consumer’s right to know where their food comes from. He says NFU is joining with the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association in efforts to defend COOL. Johnson notes NFU has fought long and hard for the implementation of COOL. He says they will continue to do so for as long as it takes. He says the packer-producer organizations that have filed the suit against the USDA are continuing to refuse the rights and desires of consumers to know where their food comes from.
