USFRA Food Dialogues Event to Discuss Farm Size



(NCGA)--Farm size will be the key topic at the next Food Dialogues event, to be held on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Boston by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance and streamed live online. The National Corn Growers Association is a proud founder and affiliate of USFRA, with NCGA board member Mike Geske serving on the USFRA board.
 
Noted food author and Bloomberg News reporter Alan Bjerga will moderate the discussion and farmers, ranchers, and food pundits will address the differences and similarities between large and small farms, farm ownership and sustainability practices and the effect these issues have on consumer perceptions. It will be held in conjunction with Food Day events around the country and help share the perspective of farmers and ranchers to a largely urban and suburban audience.
 
"This is one of our strongest panels yet and it's fitting since they'll be examining one of the hottest topics in the agricultural community: farm size," said Bob Stallman, chairman of USFRA and president of the American Farm Bureau Federation. "The purpose of the Food Dialogues events is to join in balanced discussions on provocative topics, like farm size, and our goal is to create a conversation that examines this subject from all angles. By holding this event on Food Day, we hope to reach a broader audience in Boston and online."
 
The discussion, which will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. EDT, will include panelists Leah Beyer, a farmer from Indiana; Jamie Cruz, owner and grocer at Springdell Farm in Littleton, Mass.; Michael Jacobson, founder of Food Day and executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest; Bill Luckey, a farmer from Nebraska; Lori Renzi, vice president, Brand Strategy and Development for Charlie Baggs Culinary Innovations; Bruce Rominger, a farmer from California; and Michael Swanson, an ag economist for  Wells Fargo Bank.
