Canada Serious About Retaliations Against COOL

(NAFB)--Speaking from the World Trade Organization ministerial conference in Bali - Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz told reporters his country is serious about seeking retaliatory tariffs if the U.S. does not change the country-of-origin labeling law. He said Congress has a small window of opportunity to get it right and amend COOL before the end of the year. Ritz even offered to come to Washington next week to press his case for a COOL amendment in a new farm bill. According to Ritz - the rules requiring labels to say where the animal that produced the meat came from is costing Canadian livestock producers about a billion dollars a year.
