Missouri Crop Production 2013 Summary

Corn: Planted area, at 3.35 million acres, is down 7 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 3.20 million acres, is down 3 percent from the previous year. The corn yield is estimated at 136 bushels per acre, up 61 bushels from 2012. Production is estimated at 435 million bushels, 76 percent above the previous year. 
 
Soybeans: Planted area, at 5.60 million acres, is up 4 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 5.55 million acres, is up 5 percent from the previous year and the third highest total on record. The soybean yield is estimated at 35.5 bushels per acre, up 5.5 bushels from 2012. Production is estimated at 197 million bushels, 25 percent above the previous year. 

Cotton: Planted area, at 255,000 acres, is down 27 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 246,000 acres, is down 25 percent from the previous year. The cotton yield is estimated at 956 pounds per acre, down 107 pounds from 2012. Production is estimated at 490,000 bales (480-pound), down 33 percent from the previous year. 

Rice: Planted area, at 159,000 acres, is down 12 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 156,000 acres, is down 12 percent from the previous year. The rice yield is estimated at 7,030 pounds per acre, up 40 pounds from 2012. Production is estimated at 11.0 million cwt, 11 percent below last year. 

Sorghum: Planted area, at 70,000 acres, is up 8 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 60,000 acres, is up 9 percent from the previous year. The sorghum yield is estimated at 82 bushels per acre, up 24 bushels from 2012. Production is estimated at 4.92 million bushels, 54 percent above the previous year. 

Winter wheat: Harvested area in 2013, at 1.00 million acres, is up 45 percent from the previous year. The winter wheat yield is estimated at 56 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from 2012. Production is estimated at 56.0 million bushels, 42 percent above the previous year. 

Oats: Harvested area in 2013, at 14,000 acres, is up 75 percent from the previous year. The oat yield is estimated at 53 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from 2012. Production is estimated at 742,000 bushels, 78 percent above the previous year. 

All hay: Harvested area, at 4.05 million acres, is up 11 percent from 2012. The all hay yield is estimated at 2.0 tons per acre, up 0.6 ton from the previous year. Production is estimated at 7.98 million tons, 52 percent above 2012. 

Summer potatoes: Planted area, at 9,500 acres, is up 4 percent from 2012. Harvested area, at 9,000 acres, is up 1 percent from the previous year. The summer potato yield is estimated at 300 cwt per acre, unchanged from 2012. Production is estimated at 2.70 million cwt, 1 percent above the previous year.

Missouri Grain Stocks

Corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2013 totaled 270 million bushels, up 89 percent from
December 1, 2012. On-farm stocks totaled 185 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 85.2 million bushels. The September - November 2013 indicated disappearance is 182 million bushels, up 37 percent from the same period last year. 

Soybean stocks in all positions on December 1, 2013 totaled 119 million bushels, up 40 percent from December 1, 2012. On-farm stocks totaled 69.0 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 50.2 million  bushels. The September - November 2013 indicated disappearance is 85.4 million bushels, up 6 percent from 
the same period last year. 

All wheat stocks in all positions on December 1, 2013 totaled 24.3 million bushels, down 9 percent from December 1, 2012. On-farm stocks totaled 3.00 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 21.3 million bushels. The September - November 2013 indicated disappearance is 9.87 million bushels, up 38 percent from  the same period last year.

Missouri Winter Wheat Seedings

Winter wheat seeded area for harvest in 2014 is estimated at 1.00 million acres, down 9 percent from 2013.
