Charges filed after Sunday crash at 16th and Lafayette

A felony charge has been filed after a crash at 16th and Lafayette Sunday sent one person to the hospital.

According to St. Joseph Police Capt. Jeff Wilson, 18-year-old Xavier Alan Cruz has been charged with second-degree assault. He has also had his probation revoked.

As previously reported, a vehicle driven by Cruz ran a stop sign at the intersection of 16th and Lafayette Streets and t-boned another vehicle.

The driver of the truck that was hit was transported to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of serious injuries. 

The SUV driven by Cruz was reportedly stolen.

Bond has been denied for Cruz. Arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
