Keep safety top of mind this Independence Day holiday weekend.

National Fireworks Association President, Stacy Schneitter-Blake of St. Joseph, says those who sell fireworks urge their customers to be safe as they celebrate.

“We always want to make sure that people that are using fireworks for their celebration are taking the correct safety measures,” Schneitter-Balke tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.

Schneitter-Blake with Schneitter Fireworks and Importers says just a few steps will ensure your celebration remains safe.

“We always want to make sure you’re buying from a reputable company. Always have water handy. Make sure to brace your cakes, your fountains, definitely your mortar shells,” Schneitter-Blake says. “We want to make sure that people are celebrating safely this 4th of July season.”

A couple of websites have safety tips as well:  the National Fireworks Association website as well as the website maintained by the American Pyrotechnics Safety and Education Foundation.
