Eight highway fatalities, no boating deaths in Missouri's long Independence Day holiday

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers worked eight fatal crashes during the long Independence Day holiday weekend.

Among those, a 71-year-old woman who walked into the path of an eastbound vehicle on U.S. 136 Highway west of I-35 in Bethany. The patrol reports the woman from Santee, California walked in front a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old Bethany man just before 11:30 Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer identifies crash victims.

Statewide, troopers worked 246 traffic crashes, which resulted in 115 injuries and eight fatalities. Troopers also made 114 DWI arrests.

Troopers worked nine boating crashes, which included four injuries. No one died in the boating crashes. Troopers made 13 boating while intoxicated arrests. No one drowned during the counting period.
