Kansas State alum and Maryville’s Serena Sundell is getting another shot at the WNBA.
Sundell was one of 16 basketball players who were invited to WNBA Draft Night in New York, but she fell lower than expected and was ultimately 26th overall by the Seattle Storm. Sundell, who is Kansas State’s all-time assists leader and was widely seen as one of the top playmakers in the class, was waived before the season’s start and has yet to appear in a regular-season WNBA game.
Before being waived from the Storm, Sundell appeared in one preseason game and struggled in her 20 minutes, tallying 1 point (0-3 FG), 1 assist, and 4 turnovers. Now though, she will get her WNBA opportunity.
Sundell signed a seven-day hardship contract with the Dallas Wings, the team announced on Tuesday morning. The signing comes in the wake of a season-ending injury to rookie guard JJ Quinerly, who suffered a sprained ACL last week. As such, Sundell will be available for Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun.
Last month, Sundell played for the 2025 USA 3×3 Women’s Nations League Team in Chile, helping the team win the Americas Conference Title.
