Iowa Senate passes series of bills requiring verification of citizenship status

Iowa senators approved several bills related to citizenship verification using the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database. Senate File 2203 requires the secretary of state to verify the citizenship status of registered voters through the SAVE database. If a person is not verified, their voter registration may be canceled if proof of citizenship is not provided within 90 days. Other bills passed include requirements for driver’s license applicants to verify citizenship and using SAVE for verifying citizenship in state government jobs and educational licenses.
