The Iowa House has approved a bill that would freeze undergraduate tuition at the state’s three public universities for five years. The freeze would keep tuition rates at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa stable through July 2031. Supporters of the bill argue that it would provide students with predictability and encourage universities to cut costs. If the bill becomes law, the universities might see a decrease of about $200 million in tuition revenue over the five-year period.
