Enrollment-Based Funding Plan Could Cost Missouri Western Millions

Missouri Western State University could face a $6 million cut in state funding under the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget, as per the Missouri Budget Committee’s proposal. The bill approved by the Missouri House Budget Committee ties state funding for public universities to their student enrollment numbers. Governor Mike Kehoe recommended $27.2 million for Missouri Western, but the budget committee suggests $21.12 million. In comparison, Northwest Missouri State University may receive more funding based on its higher enrollment numbers. HB 2003 passed out of committee and awaits approval by the full House before moving to the Senate.
