An Atchison man is facing charges after allegedly beating a dog with a board. Police responded to a report of the incident and found the man outside a residence with the injured animal. The man, identified as 51-year-old Paul Widner, became confrontational with officers and was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and animal cruelty. The injured dog was removed by animal control for treatment at a veterinary clinic.
