The Buchanan County Spelling Bee, sponsored by the St. Joseph School District PTA Council, will showcase 85 of the county’s top spellers on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The event will be hosted at Truman Middle School, with registration opening at 12:30 p.m. and the competition officially beginning at 1 p.m.
The competition will be divided into two simultaneous sessions based on grade level. Students in fifth and sixth grades will compete in the Boys’ Gym, while participants in seventh and eighth grades will take the stage in the Girls’ Gym. In total, 20 schools from across the county are sending representatives to the bee.
The stakes are high for the 85 competitors, as only the top five spellers from each division will advance to the final round. From those finalists, the top two overall winners will earn the honor of representing Buchanan County at the Northwest Missouri Regional Spelling Bee.
