Nodaway County U.S. Route 71 resurfacing project to begin March 26

Herzog Contracting Corp., in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will begin a resurfacing project on Nodaway County U.S. Route 71 starting Thursday, March 26.

The work area spans from the Iowa State line to the intersection of U.S. Route 136 near Burlington Junction.

Motorists should expect significant traffic impacts through late April 2026, as U.S. Route 71 will be narrowed to a single lane. During this time, flaggers and a pilot car will direct traffic through the work zone. To ensure safety, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 miles per hour, and a 10-foot width restriction will be strictly enforced. All construction is scheduled to take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

MoDOT says the project requires a specific sequence of operations across the region. Consequently, the ongoing resurfacing of U.S. Route 136 between Interstate 29 in Rock Port and Route 71 will be paused while crews focus on the northern section of Route 71.

Once that segment is finished, the contractor will complete the Route 136 work before moving to the final stage of the project: resurfacing Route 71 south of the Route 136 intersection to Route CC north of Maryville.

All work is expected to be completed by mid-August 2026. However, the schedule remains weather-permitting and is subject to change based on local conditions.
